Photo book Published

Society for Conservation Biology Nepal (SCB Nepal) published a book titled “Lens for Biodiversity Conservation in Nepal”. This book is an outcome of the “Photo Conference 2021”, organized on June 05, 2021, which allowed thousands of people to discuss local conservation issues through photographs as a case study. SCB Nepal decided to give the shape of a book with relevant scientific information, hoping to serve as a resource book. The book is edited by Dr. Prakash K Paudel, Mr. Ambika Prasad Khatiwada and Mr. Yadav Ghimirey Congratulations! Photo Conference 2022 Concludes

Society for Conservation Biology Nepal in partnership with WWF Nepal successfully organized the Second Photo Conference 2022 marking the International Day for Biological Diversity, on May 22 to provide an avenue to share and discuss photos, featuring values of biodiversity and impending conservation challenges. We received 260 photos from 119 participants. Recent research has found a large conservation gap in protecting endemic seed plants in the Central Himalaya

The success in biodiversity conservation cannot be measured simply by evaluating how much land area has been set aside for conservation but by assessing if these areas are truly representative of the extant biodiversity. For example, although Nepal’s PA coverage (23.63% land area) is much larger than the Aichi biodiversity target, the recent research has found a large conservation gap in protecting endemic seed plants in Nepal. Photo Conference 2021 concludes

Society for Conservation Biology Nepal successfully organized its first-ever photo conference on the occasion of world environment day, June 5, 2021. The main aim of the conference was to provide an opportunity to all interested people from all walks of life to submit their digital photos taken in Nepal under various thematic areas and share the story behind the photo. The conference took place through a virtual platform i.e. via Zoom. There were more than hundred participants who registered and participated in this conference. Scientists find climate change threatens at least 10% protected areas

Recently, our member Dr. Nawal Shrestha published a research paper entitled “Vulnerability of protected lands in the face of climate and human footprint changes” in Nature Communications, one of the most prestigious and highly regarded peer-reviewed scientific journals of the present time. The study used a multi-dimensional approach, including species vulnerability, climate change and human pressure to assess the vulnerability of 2572 protected areas in China. Their assessment identified nearly 10% protected areas as the most threatened protected areas in China and about one-fifth protected areas as hotspots of climate and anthropogenic vulnerabilities. The Society for Conservation Biology Nepal (SCB-Nepal) is concerned about how COVID-19 will affect our conservation communities in Nepal: practitioners, researchers and everyone.
